We were asked by London College of Fashion's
Centre of Sustainable Fashion, to work with them on designing the exhibition for this year's
Fashioning the Future Awards. The awards are an international competition for design and innovation in sustainable fashion. Attracting entries from all over the world the awards showcase a variety of interesting and new approaches to fashion. The awards were split into five categories; Design, Enterprise, Communication, Balance and Materials and Process.
The exhibition showcased the UNIQUE nature of every project. Three large zoetropes displayed examples of the physical work in motion, achieving a 360 degree view – an unconventional catwalk. These zoetropes were powered by the visitors – three grinders were placed around the space allowing the visitors to watch the animation whilst turning the zoetropes themselves.
The space was filled with the spoken narration from the designers, emitted from sound cones hanging throughout. Each cone displayed works from one of the shortlisted applicants. By exploring the space and stepping underneath the cones, visitors could enter the designer's headspace and listen to them speak about their work.
