...are developing a graphic language to promote project Zumbido in Mexico, an HIV/AIDS charity.

Project Zumbido looked to improve the quality of life of those living with HIV/AIDS, with a particular focus on tackling the negative health affects of social isolation. We took participants from both rural and urban areas of the state of Jalisco in Mexico, broke them into groups of 10, and gave them mobile phones so they could communicate simultaneously, therefore making them feel like they were part of a community.

The Zumbido participants encouraged their fellow co-members to re-start taking their medication, when they had previously given up. They became empowered consumers. The diverse experiences and backgrounds of the participants encouraged problem sharing and the acquistion of new knowledge, principally in the area of access to services and medical treatment. The emotional state of the participants improved dramatically; feelings of isolation, depression and anxiety reduced significantly.
